Song of the Day: Low in the Grave He Lay (see video in post below) Verse: Matthew 28:5-6 But the angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay.

Crazy, busy day as we prepared for the Hippie-Freak's birthday party. I was also trying to secure some of the school books we'll need for the coming year from someone on the listserv who was selling a bit of what we needed. It looks like everything I've ordered this week will be coming next week. Unfortunately, this includes the gift I ordered for H-F for Easter. I'm sure he'll be just fine waiting. :)
I guess I picked up when I got up, I can't remember. There was something in there about getting dressed. It's been over 12 hours ago, though, so it's now all a fog. :D I know I still had to make frosting since I hadn't last night. I'm glad I waited. I had forgotten how quickly home-made frosting dries out. My friend came over to help out with the decorating. I've never made a four layer cake before, even for my cake decorating classes I took 10 years ago.
After the cake we had lunch & cleaned the dishes. I'm starting to get used to doing them all by hand now. I'll kind of miss it. It just takes so long to do by hand so a dishwasher is for the best. :) (It will be arriving Monday.) After we finished cleaning most everything Dad took the older boys to their rehearsal. They skipped their earlier level rehearsals but we thought it would be a good idea to get them in to the boys' rehearsal since that's a big chunk of the class. :D
I mopped the floors. Babycakes tried to help.
Unfortunately, all he got to do was slip & hurt himself on the floor. He hurt himself a lot today. He got bumped into the door jam twice during the party. :/
Finally I got the littles into the bath. That was actually fun. It would have been more fun but I was pressed for time. It was 4:30 when I put them in and the party was supposed to start at 5pm. I'm usually ready and waiting for a long time before we have guests so it was very unusual for me to not even be dressed myself.
H-F's friend E arrived with her parents, followed by the grandparents & the rest of our brood, returning from ballet. He was so excited to show everyone his cake.
We colored eggs first. That was an adventure. Everything went well, though, and I was glad I only let him invite one family to his party. I think it would have been too much for me if I had invited everyone I wanted to invite. :D (One note, the Dudley's Egg Stamping kit does not work well. It paints nicely but it doesn't stamp. We'll save the stamps and pick up some stamp pads at Michael's next week to use them on some paper.)
During egg painting E's sister arrived from her other activity so she was able to color some eggs before we moved on to dinner. After dinner we had an egg hunt. It was a lot of fun. We let H-F "find" the first egg before releasing the others. This was a bit too much pressure for him, though...I think he wanted everyone else to be with him. :) I watched as Thing 1 ran to the typical egg hiding place in the tree. Boy was he surprised to see it empty. Thought I'd change it up this year. We always use the same spot so I put it in another hole on the back side of the tree. :)
After all the eggs were found H-F opened his presents. He's such a good kid. He waited for people to take their pictures & was happy to pose for the camera after each present was opened. It was a lot of farm stuff & one math book from his grandparents. (This is a greatly appreciated gift for my little super-student.)
We were joking while taking the pictures that the corners of his mouth were tired from smiling all day since he didn't smile like he usually does. Then we brought out the cake...
Yeah, then he smiled. :)
The cake turned out great. It was chocolate & vanilla layered. We used the Betty Crocker Gluten Free cake mix. I'd never had the Vanilla before & it was very tasty. I'm definitely going to use it again.
Somewhere in the middle of this day, my friend came back and dropped off a tractor. :) I pulled it out while they were waiting for the cake & took a picture of each kid. Anyway, while my friend was here H-F came over with a piece of paper on which he had written his name. This was the first time he had ever written his whole name all by himself. I was very proud. :)
And now back to the continuity...;)
After his guests left & before bed, he wanted to play with his new UNO Moo Farm game. This game is pretty fun. I don't usually enjoy these newly invented kids' games but this one I'll gladly play again.
So now the kids are in bed & Dad & the teenager (I've not thought up a name for him shy of Zombie-killer yet) are working on the computer. It will sure be fun to get him out of bed for church in the morning. X-(
