For the beauty of the earth, For the beauty of the skies,
For the love which from our birth Over and around us lies,
Lord of all, to thee we raise This our grateful hymn of praise.

Five Minute Friday: Brave

Brave.

Change is brave. Staying the same is cowardice. The man given 5 talents making them into 10 is brave. The man given one and hiding it is a coward.

Change is terrifying. Staying the same is safe. People don't like it when you change, because that makes them uncomfortable realizing they too need to change. People like you to stay the same and keep them happy.

But we are not here to please men, are we?

Change is good. People change their clothes, their hairdo, their shoes. But people don't like to change their attitudes and preconceived notions. It's easier to stay with the same thought patterns that our parents and grandparents had. Why think about it? It's always been this way. If we change it we don't know what will happen. If we stay the same, everything will be as it always was.

Paul changed. What if he had thought, gee, you know, all my friends are Pharisees and I really like hanging out with them at Passover and Barmitzvahs? What if he had decided the change was too much? Too radical? It was radical. But can we expect anything less than radical change when Christ takes over our lives? If we are the same as we've ever been, shouldn't we be more worried about that than we are about what might happen if we change?

Five minutes up.
