For the beauty of the earth, For the beauty of the skies,
For the love which from our birth Over and around us lies,
Lord of all, to thee we raise This our grateful hymn of praise.

San Diego Zoo August 18

Never got around to publishing the photos from our last trip to the zoo.

For months we have been trying to feed the giraffes at the zoo. We have been thwarted on every occasion. The question was, would we finally succeed?

Visited the elephant exhibit while killing time before the giraffe ticket booth opened. We've never entered on this side. We usually come down from the top. So we actually had no idea any of this stuff existed. :)

Mr. Great-heart posing.

Babycakes liked this pretend excavator.

Did I ever mention that Babycakes is the only one of my dancing boys who can actually do the splits?

Am I the only person who sees this creature for what it really is? A baby hippogriff, obviously. :)

Babycakes is using this opportunity to taste the wire. :/

I don't know about you, but I'm very glad this creature behind Spock is extinct.

No matter how you look at it, camels are pretty disgusting. ;)

Braniac noticed this lamppost wrap right away.

A rare picture of me taken by the guy sitting at the table next to us. Mr. Great-heart and Braniac aren't entirely sure about him. :D

We forgot our cooler that had our lunch in it at home. That was a very expensive (but tasty) mistake.

Getting in line to feed the giraffes.

Babycakes trying to make friends with the girls next to us.

Almost there.

Getting our feed.

Spock was the first to the giraffes. Babycakes pretended to feed too. Maybe we should have bought him a ticket too.

Braniac finally feeding his beloved giraffes. He was so happy. Mr. Great-heart was a bit more reticent. The poor giraffe. :D

(I have some official photos the zoo took which I will post in a separate post later.)

Here's Babycakes trying to make friends with these kids who were watching the snake.

Seriously the most difficult shot to get. We bought a spray bottle since it was so hot. Babycakes was having a great time getting sprayed by The Teenager. This is the only pic where he wasn't blurred from jumping around so much. :)

Braniac wanted me to take pics of all the reptiles.

Including this one of him with a cobra.

And this of him laying out with a komodo dragon.

The new Reptile walk is open.

Did I mention that it was hot?

This poor turtle could have been some wild animal's food if it had only been left out in the wild. ;)  Seriously, I don't think this poor thing could lift its head if it wanted to.

Mission accomplished. Scratch that off Braniac's bucket list. The next week we'd scratch one off Mr. Great-heart's list. But that's a whole 'nother blog post. :)
