But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 1 Peter 2:9
We are a chosen race. For what reason? That we may proclaim the excellencies of him who called us out of darkness... We are to proclaim it. When something good happens in our lives, we need to give glory to God. When someone notes something good we've done we need to give glory to God. Sure, it's not easy at first. I spent 43 years of my life thoroughly confused about this coz every time I did it, I was shot down...by "Christians." But now I know the Truth, now I know what I am to do. And, interesting thing is, it's getting easier. It's not always done without trepidation, but it is starting to be done. I am part of a chosen race. It is not just for the pastor to proclaim this, it is not just for people who have fancy seminary plaques on their walls. Peter is talking about all of who are chosen. If we have the gumption to consider ourselves followers of Christ, we ought to have the faith that he will be with us and give us the courage to bring glory to His name by pointing the world around us to Him. He is the one, after all, who gave us a hope and a future. He is the one, after all, who holds our place in Heaven. And, in the probably not so immortal words of Penn Jillette, how much do we have to hate someone not to tell them about it?

Hi Sara,
ReplyDeleteI love your opening verse ... Funny how we each consider a word, term, or phrase and take a different approach to writing about it. Two of the 5-Minute Friday posts I read wrote about 'race' in the context of ethnicity, heritage which did not come to my mind at all. Indeed, you are right that as believers, we must be more outspoken about our faith as witnesses and ambassadors for Christ in the world.
What a beautiful reminder that we all are all called to proclaim His excellencies. Have a great weekend.
